Sponsored by the Institute of Hospitality, the Education Pipeline Award highlights the importance of the links between industry and education at every level. The award focuses on a holistic approach with demonstrable results, effective on-going relationships and partnerships that clearly complement a business HR strategy whilst working effectively with education establishments.

Commenting on the award, which was presented by Phillippe Rossiter, CEO of the Institute of Hospitality, Managing Director of Chewton Glen, Andrew Stembridge said: "This award is a wonderful recognition of the work that our Human Resource Director Anita Bower, and her team have invested in championing the cause of education and careers advice in our local schools, colleges and universities. Over a number of years, it has become clear to companies within the hospitality sector that good careers advice and guidance to school leavers has been neglected. This is a situation that we are passionate about changing, the tourism industry worldwide is incredibly important and we should encourage and promote its growth and development."

Anita Bower, who accepted the award on behalf of the team at Chewton Glen commented: "Our goal is to reach as many educational facilities as we can, from arranging student visits to the hotel for a tour and demonstration; going out to schools and colleges; attending career days; enterprise days; locally organised skills festivals and giving individual advice on hospitality careers. To be successful in most careers you need good communications skills and we work on these with students, particularly personal presentation, eye contact and listening skills. At Chewton Glen, we talk about 'recruiting for personality and training for skills' and we place great emphasis on vocational learning as well as academic routes."
