CHEWTON GLEN WINS 'LARGE HOTEL OF THE YEAR AWARD'

The newly refurbished St George’s Hall, Liverpool was the glittering venue for the 2008 Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, in which Chewton Glen received the gold award as ‘Large Hotel of the Year’, at a ceremony attended by over 400 guests in the European City of Culture on St George’s Day, Wednesday 23rd April 2008. Now in their 19th year, these awards promote healthy industry competition and high standards, helping to ensure England’s place as a world-class destination.

“The Enjoy England Awards for Excellence are the highest accolade in English Tourism and we are thrilled to have received this award. It is the staff that makes the difference between a good hotel and a great hotel, and it is for them, their attention to detail and their pride in their work, that I accept this prestigious award”, said Andrew Stembridge, Managing Director of Chewton Glen, at the award ceremony on Wednesday night.

As regional finalists the hotel was entered for these prestigious national awards, which are judged by a panel of independent industry experts. The awards, hosted by actor and producer Ben Miller, are particularly important as they represent the essence of good hospitality and take into consideration criteria such as; high quality accommodation, customer service, housekeeping, excellent dining experience and meeting guests’ needs; and it is very refreshing to be judged on these traditional qualities.

It is very positive that these awards recognise the best of the English tourist industry covering numerous categories from sustainable tourism, visitor attractions, business tourism to the more recognisable categories of guest accommodation and outstanding customer service.

“These awards come at a very exciting time for Chewton Glen as we are just completing the half-a-million pound refurbishment of nine of our bedrooms and have also recently been granted planning permission for the construction of twelve stunning new rooms, which will be completed in the late summer of 2009. It is very rewarding that our commitment to the enhancement and development of this exceptional hotel is recognised by our industry peers with the award of this accolade,” concluded Andrew Stembridge.

As a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, Chewton Glen was also delighted that our fellow GTBS member, The Cottage Lodge in the New Forest, received a gold ‘Sustainable Tourism Award’ during the presentation in Liverpool.

NEW ROOMS...GUARANTEED TO DELIGHT

The new Garden Wing bedrooms at Chewton Glen will be a vibrant mix of colour themed English classic styled rooms - with a slight contemporary twist!

We have commissioned our interior designer Anita Rosato to provide old colour schemes, which we know you will enjoy. Anita has used as her statement colours; grape, black, yellow, mauve, brown and teal within each of the rooms.

As usual, the antiques which are part and parcel of the hotel will remain, but these are partnered with beautiful modern lamps and set within a back drop of textures and vibrant English styled patters derived from the likes of William Morris and archived etchings.

All the rooms are provided with new technology of flat screened LCD TV's and IPOD docking stations to enable guests to have their personalised selection of music. Bathrooms will be provided with splash TV screens also for the ultimate in luxury.

The New rooms will be completed by early May 2008.
