Introducing Andrew Cook, General Manager of Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa.

Andrew began his journey through hospitality 30 years ago as a receptionist at the luxurious Intercontinental Hotel London Park Lane. After gaining important experience in Front of House and Night Manager Operations, Andrew relocated to Champney’s Health Resolt in Tring as Assistant Front Office Manager, progressing to Front Office Manager.

After 3 and half years Andrew decided it was time to explore the greater world and went on to Dubai in 1993 and joined The Royal Abjar; the first Leading Hotel of the World in Dubai at the time. After two years Andrew returned to the UK and joined Turnberry Hotel and Golf Course as Front Office Manager.

Having travelled the world as a children with his family to Brazil, Portugal and Greece, it wasn’t long before Andrew was drawn back to the Middle East at the end of 1995. There he took on the role of Front Office Manager for the now Ritz-Carlton in Bahrain. In January 1998 Andrew relocated to one of his all-time favourite countries; South Africa and joined The Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town; an Orient Express Hotel, as Rooms Division Manager. In October 2000 Andrew was promoted to EAM and then Hotel Manager in 2001.

In 2005 Andrew attended the GMP Programme at Cornell University in Itaca and subsequently in 2007 he was appointed the General Manager of The Mount Nelson. After 2 years, he transferred to the Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg before returning to England in 2012 as General Manager of The Orient Express British Pullman train.

Andrew and his teams received many accolades and awards during his tenure with Orient Express. In January 2014 Andrew went on to tackle another hospitality challenge on his bucket list; running a Beach Resort. Andrew joined Planhotels and ran two of their Luxury resorts; Diamond’s La Gemma dell’Est and Diamond’s Star of the East in northern Zanzibar.

In 2016 he hosted the World Travel awards for Africa and Indian Ocean the first time in Eastern Africa and again achieved numerous accolades and awards annually with his team including top environmental awards from TUI and Travelife.

He returns to England to be with his wife and daughter and is delighted to be part of the Chewton Glen family.
