The Hon. Mary Montagu-Scott 'Being The High Sheriff of Hampshire'
Monday 15th October
The Hon. Mrs Mary Montagu-Scott DL was High Sheriff of Hampshire 2017 - 2018. Mary will tell us what a modern day High Sheriff does, how you are appointed and how is it relevant to today's society.
The shrievalty dates back to Saxon times and is the oldest secular office in the country. The High Sheriff ensures the welfare of the High Court judges, attends royal visits and supports all organisations working in law and order, community cohesion and public safety. The High Sheriff is second in precedence after the Lord Lieutenant in the county. The office is unpaid, non-political and the appointment is for one year only. Mary will tell us about her recent year in office and all the extraordinary things she did including visiting prisons, the commissioning of the new aircraft carrier, the Law courts and meeting many wonderful dedicated people working in the voluntary sector across the county.

Arrival coffee, presentation by Hon Mary Montagu-Scott, three-course lunch with coffee and chocolates and your choice of a glass of red or white wine with lunch.
Please confirm any dietary requirements at the time of booking. Guests will be seated at banqueting tables of 10/12 for the presentation and lunch.
