For the Family
A family sort of day
Chewton Glen makes a natural base for family weekend breaks in the UK. One moment might be all wellies, fresh air and wandering through the grounds; the next, a swim, a game, or something quietly organised for younger guests with curious minds and busy hands.
For bigger adventures, the New Forest and the coast are close enough to make the day feel open-ended. Stay close to the estate or head out for a few hours - either way, the team can help with the useful details, so everyone has a little more time to simply enjoy it.
Horse riding can be arranged through nearby stables, around 15 minutes from the hotel. Private lessons are available for complete beginners through to experienced riders, either at the stables or, for more confident guests, as hacks into the New Forest.
A classic lawn game for unhurried afternoons. Simple to enjoy and pleasingly competitive if you want it to be.
A memorable estate experience with plenty of character.

Your Questions, Answered
How far is the New Forest from Chewton Glen?
The hotel sits right on the edge of it, so it is easy to get into the forest quickly - whether you have a spare hour or a full day to explore.
Do I need a guide?
Not always, but guided options are a lovely way to see more - especially for mountain biking, longer routes, or if you would like the day shaped around a specific pace or interest.
What should I wear?
Comfortable layers and proper footwear. The forest can be muddy after rain, and it is often cooler under the trees.
Can families join these experiences?
Yes. Options such as walks and selected guided activities can work well for families; the team can advise on the best fit for ages, timings and energy levels.
